On Windows 7 and later version, Plug and Play is activated for Smart Cards. An administrator may want to turn off this feature to prevent installing unauthorized security devices, or to prevent user prompts. To so do change the following group policy settings:

Turning off Smart Card PnP does not prevent installation of the minidriver via the installer application. The installer can be run and will stage the smart card minidrivers, and these will be installed on the first insertion of the smart card.
